Tips by BBB to Help Stay Scam-free

New Year, Same Old Scams

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) predicts top scams from past years to roll over into 2020

2019 is officially behind us. Most of us have probably already broken our New Year’s resolution by now, but my hat goes off to those of you who are still determined.

Speaking of being determined, no one will try harder to steal your money than scammers. They will target you disguised as IRS agents, debt collectors, employers, and online sellers, ultimately asking you to send them your money (usually in ways not traceable).

These scams have been here for years because they are working. Believe it or not, the BBB reports that 1 in 5 people will be a victim of a scam and annual losses amount to about $50 billion.

So how do we protect ourselves from these parasites?

Here are a few tips to consider put together by the BBB to help you stay scam-free:

1.) Unless you’ve met the person face-to-face, DO NOT SEND HIM OR HER MONEY. 2.) We all get pesky emails we don’t want or didn’t ask for. Be extra careful when opening them and DO NOT click on any attachments or links. Some scammers will use this means of communication to try to get money out of you. 3.) Are you sure the website from which you are buying from is secure? Remember, this is on the list of top scams. Make sure the site is legit by checking it out at bbb.org.
